Ruling party lawmakers have announced they will present a bill in the Lower House of Congress on Monday to expropriate the sister airlines Aerolíneas Argentinas and Austral. The move come§,after a bicameral committee on Tuesday said that the companies, controlled by the Spanish group Marsans, are deeplin debt and worth a eso.

An appeals court meanwhile yesterday summoned former president Carlos Menem and his former economy minister Domingo Cavallo in connection with the airline's privatization in 1991. The court said that the privatization of the companies, which dominate domestic flight services, was irregular "from the start."
